In what may be a prelude to final disengagement, the Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ms Damilola Ogunbiyi has been sent on indefinite suspension.
The Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman who ordered her suspension on Tuesdsy did not state any specific allegation of infractions.
In a move said to be the “continuation of the restructuring and sanitation of the Federal Ministry of Power,” another top female official Dr. Marylyn Amobi who was the Managing Director, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc, was directed to step down office immediately.
In a statement, the Minister’s Special Adviser, Mr. Aaron Artimas stated that Ogunbiyi and Amobi are to hand over to the most senior directors in their parastatals while special investigation panels commences work into their operations.
Before joining the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), Mrs. Ogunbiyi was the first female to be appointed as the General Manager of the Lagos State Electricity Board, which is responsible for public lighting, independent power projects, and energy development in Lagos State.
Under her leadership, five independent power projects were completed to deliver over 55 megawatts of power to Lagos State hospitals, schools, streetlights, and the Lagos State government secretariat.
